About this hike

Are you ready for a rollercoaster of a hike?

Hiking Ben Macdui is one of the most incredible experiences Britain has to offer. You start up high following a wonderful series of ascents and descent as you make your way along the route. We typically start at Coire Cas and trek past the main ski run to the summit of Cairngorm. You'll get to take in views of the Rothiemurchus forest and Aviemore beyond. From here, we go on to follow the path taking us down through Coire Raibeirt to the beautiful shores of Loch Avon and then back up the other side to come face on with Loch Etchachan.

It then becomes time to climb once again, this time to the huge cairn marking the summit of Ben Macdui, which is the second highest mountain in Britain. On a clear day you'll take in views of the west side of the Lairig Ghru, Carn Toul and Braeriach. Then finally to descend we follow the path north which brings us out right next to Coire an Lochain alongside the car park.
